The New Jersey Legislature and Attorney General were busy with employment law enactments last year. Here’s an excellent article from the Greenberg Traurig firm about them.
We’ve covered some of the changes in this blog: gender-neutral dress codes and pay transparency.
Here are some other highlights:
RetireReady NJ requires all New Jersey employers with 25 or more employees that do not offer a qualifying retirement plan for their employees to provide certain retirement benefits. Covered employers were required to register with the State by September 15, 2024 (40 or more employees) or November 15, 2024 (25-39 employees), but there is a grace period before fines and penalties will be assessed. For those employers who have 40 or more employees, that deadline is June 15, 2025; for smaller employers, it’s September 15, 2025. The RetireReady NJ webpage is still accepting registrations. Additionally, exempt employers that already provide retirement benefits must certify their exemption on the webpage.
Minimum wage increased on January 1, 2025 to $15.49 per hour.
